Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a slow, rhythmic, circular stroke with no more pressure than 9 ounces per square inch. The intention is to move fluid to the lymphatic vessels to reduce swelling and lymphedema. Therapists who offer this modality should have additional training in either Vodder method or Klose method. This training will allow therapists to adequately perform manual drainage of lymph fluid. Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) includes wraps, pumps, and often scripts for compression sleeves. (CDT) is often completed by Occupational Therapists or Physical Therapists. Often Massage Therapists are the first line of defense for edema/lymphedema, If compressions are needed referrals can be made.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage assists lymph fluid to move through the vessels to the lymph nodes. The lymph system does not have an automatic “pump” such as the heart, rather, fluid is pumped by joint movements. Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage assists those with sprains, surgical procedures, neuropathy, Diabetes, Cancer, Lupus, Parkinsons, ALS, and muscular disabilities.
Cranial Sacral
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger after years of clinical testing and research at Michigan State University where he served as professor of biomechanics.
Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel – practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and it’s effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Gentle, slow, pressure will allow fascia to elongate. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects all structures throughout our bodies. Fascia wraps around all our organs, muscles, circulatory system and nervous system.
Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create myofascial restrictions that can produce restriction and pressure on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.). Myofascial Release massage can reshape these restrictions to improve movement and decrease pain.
THai Massage
Thai massage focuses on energy lines, Sen lines, often resembles yoga moves accompanied with massage. Most Asian bodywork is based on the concept that there is a system of energy lines in the body. If they are blocked, health problems develop. Unblocking this energy flow results in improved health.
Thai massage at iCARE is a balance of table Thai along energy lines and Thai Rocking Massage. Thai table massage allows a combination of massage techniques to be utilized to obtain the best results for the client. Thai rocking massage uses a rocking motion to desensitize the nervous system, reduce muscular restrictions, and still open energy lines.
